Every Journey Begins With a Single Step

I’m feeling a little serendipity as I sit down to write this.  Sometimes it’s easier  to type with some background noise so I turned to Adult Swim and settled in.  King of the Hill is on and it just so happens to be the episode where Hank joins a co-op and visits the organic farm the food comes from.  The Hill family sits down to eat their first organic, farm-fresh, local meal and they are baffled and delighted that the tomatoes have… flavor.

There are a lot of reasons why I decided to venture into the world of blogging – maybe 2000, maybe more- but none of the reasons are sweeter or dearer to my heart than the place where my passion for food meets my desire to take charge of my own life and truly live it the best way possible.  That said, I need to point out that this blog will not just be about food or nutrition, though it will come up often.  Here’s the broader picture:  The intent in creating 2000 Pieces is to open up a space for reflection and learning on my journey toward living my fullest and best life by way of awakening consciousness in myself and taking responsibility for the limitless choices presented me on a daily basis.

The details will no doubt work themselves out, but to give a better idea of what I have in mind for 2000 Pieces I would like to share some of the questions lying inside me that lead me here in the first place.  I’m not sure any of the questions have concrete answers, or that the right answers for me will be the same answers for anyone else, but I do think the questions are relate-able.

What if feeling better, both inside and out,  is in my control?
What would I do with my life if there were no perceived obstacles?
What if I rejected the thought that I’m just one person, and therefor may not have a great affect on anything?
What things in life are important to me and how will I honor them?
Are any of my habits and choices harming me, others, or the environment?  If so, what is the fix or alternative?

Along the way I’ll be exhausting media resources like books and documentaries, inviting guest bloggers and contributors, and going to experts  and professionals themselves for answers (Reporting!  Yay!!!).  I want to find out the down low on everything from  homesteading to colonic and back again.  I want to explore things like yoga, the true power of the dollar, “alternative” healing and diets,  transportation choices,   where food really comes from, and the effects of what we ingest on our bodies - just for starters!  This will be an active process for me, also.  I will be trying and participating in  as much as I can and, in the end, keeping the habits and changes I find to be suitable for my lifestyle and in line with my values.

Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth  living.”  My hope is that you will read and learn along with me offering your own insights,  encouragements, and experiences.  This blog is in no way meant to be a cure-all/answer-all and is not written in anything but a spirit of openness  and positivity.  I’m super excited!  Here’s to putting together the pieces, whatever they may be!
